I have been waiting eagerly, impatiently, hungrily for Stevenson's next book in the Hinky Chicago world and A Taste of You does not disappoint. I bought it one afternoon last weekend, read it that night without putting it down, and now... I'm waiting again. I can't get enough of this world. You might think, what with all the books these days about zombies, vampires, werewolves, ghosts and the whole panoply of things that go bump, that every possible variation on the paranormal theme had pretty much been done. Not so; Stevenson's Hinky Chicago owes nothing to any existing magic-touched world. It's the freshest and most creative concept imaginable... and the most convincing. Not only that, the writing is intelligent, snappy, and utterly absorbing, the plot is fast-paced and enjoyably wild, and the characters are fun to be around. This is wonderful stuff. Wonderful. Encore! Encore!

Loved this. Hel and Nick are the kind of unusual characters that bring me back to romance novels - because they (especially Hel) are PEOPLE who are interesting in their own right, not just because of their attraction to each other. Stevenson's characters are smart and sassy, the world she's created is a fun place to hang out in, and the love story comes to a satisfying but not smarmy conclusion. You can't ask for much more.

I like Stevenson's Hinky Chicago series - it is not highbrow it is funny, frothy, a desert you can read in a few hours. The sexuality is fun. The mysteries worked through are fun. The whole situation is fun. Fun. If you are not looking for fun do not buy this book or any of her others.

A new and novel approach to vampire romance. Hel is on a roller derby team wear she can get the energy she needs. She gets caught up in a scheme to recover a magic coin and encounters romance on the way. I thought the book was unique and a fast read.

This book was different from the others in the series so far...where's Jewel, Randy and Clay?? While I did miss them a bit Hel and Nick kept me quite entertained! This is a gritty, twisty, dark but balanced with light and romance. I absolutely loved this book!! I didn't put it down until the very last page and was very sad that it was over but what a story!!! Hel has met her match in Nick, Hel is an energy demon and Nick is a Magic bloodhound and they balance each other so well I'm so happy that they found each other and really shocked to learn that Dr. Katterfelto isn't a bad guy, he's a little crazy but actually very helpful and really into the science behind the magic which I found very interesting. I can't wait to read the next!! I hope this series never ever ends!!!I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

At first I was confused as this ARC was book 5, and knew I missed a lot of the story, but I fell in love with Helen and Nick! Helen became an energy Vampire when she was just seventeen, and instantly sucked her boyfriend dry by accident as they made love with him turning to ashes in her arms. She still looks seventeen, but poses as a twenty-four year old teaching hyperactive boys. She also plays roller derby with her team.Federal Anti-magic Cop, Agent, Nick Jones needs Helen to spy on a man that was on their radar for posing as magic. Magic is not allowed in Chicago or anywhere, he badgers her with so much money if she will spy that he's not worried as he knows her mom is in deep debt from her cancer treatments at the hospital .

Jennifer Stevenson takes the reader on another trip to her hinky world, this time with an energy sucking vampire as the good gal. I have enjoyed several of the other books in the Chicago series and have found them all to be very entertaining and light fun reads. Her characters always have a magical secret and super power or ability that is usually very different from what you would normally expect. This is a voluntary review of a copy of this book from Prolific Works.

This book follows Helen `Hel' as she tries to figure out ways to suck energy from people without doing them any harm. She is an energy vampire and if she is not careful, she can suck energy from someone until they turn into nothing but dust. Not all energy tastes the same. Bad people with bad thoughts give off bad tasting energy, so sucking energy during her subway rides is bottom of the barrel picking, but something Hel does to keep from getting too hungry and possibly hurting someone she loves. In this world being magic of any kind is a bad thing, so she hides her true self from everyone. When Agent Nick shows up at her work and wants her to help uncover someone who may be using magic, Hel samples his energy and he is soooooo delicious! Since he is an anti-magic cop, she has to be very careful when she is around him so he doesn't find out what she really is and have her arrested. This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. I didn't like that Hel was so crybaby all the time, but I guess going without love (or sex) for 40 years or so would tend to make someone a bit on edge. I enjoyed all the roller derby action and the cool names the girls had given themselves. I especially enjoyed all the names for the different moves the girls would put on people.I would have enjoyed learning a bit more about the different characters and what was going on with them. There were references to her shrink, Dr. Springe, not looking right and that she had a possible link to Dr. Katterfelto then nothing was ever mentioned again. They were mentions of different magics in the world, but only a few mentions as to what they were or how they were being used.** Note **I received this book free from LibraryThing Early Reviewers program in exchange for an honest review. I received no chocolate or any other compensation in exchange for my review.
