ANNIE GRIFFITHS was one of the first women photographers to work for National Geographic. She has photographed dozens of magazine and book projects for the Society, and her work has appeared in LIFE, Smithsonian, Paris Match, Stern, and many other publications. Annie has received awards from the National Press Photographers Association, Associated Press, National Organization of Women, and the White House News Photographers Association. This is our second purchase of a National Geographic Collectors Series. These photo books are amazing! Visual crack!! Very jealous of the abilities, shots, and experiences these photographers enjoyed. However, they provided us with a stunning gift for the eyes! My wife and I leaf through it together. We pace ourselves to make sure that we appreciate every picture.This will not be our last purchase in this series and we hope more will come in the future.

Should have paid attention to a reviewer who was dissatisfied because the photos extend through the binding, so they're "broken." Better to have slightly smaller images that are complete on 1 page. Thought I'd be riveted, but I'm disappointed. Wouldn't have bought it if I'd leafed through it in a store. If you want to find a gift for a photographer, or a "coffee table book" for passing the time, keep looking.

I bought two of these for my nieces, each of which has two small children. I thought it would be a nice way for Mom to help the kiddies learn about color, and about the world around. It worked, both of them loved it and so did their kids. The photographs in this book are superlative, making it a great family coffee table book as well. A photographer (which I am) could learn a lot about using color from these photos. A winner in every way.

Great table for a bedroom side table. Perfect size and absolutely beautiful colored photographs. Makes a great little gift for someone who has an eye for colors and photographs but also has everything else!

I purchased this as a gift to my son for his college graduation. His dream is to be a NatGeo photographer, so this was the perfect gift. Beautiful photos! I liked the arrangement by color and the quotes to help instill what the colors signify. My son was very pleased with the book.

Nice photos however the book is smaller than expected, so the photos are folded and stapled at the spine instead of the book being longer. I didn't like that at all.

Beautiful photos! Purchased for Dr. Office where I work. Patients love this!

I have bought several of these books to prepare for visiting other countries, and they are always spot on. If you enjoy knowing a bit of background before you travel, and don't want to be an ugly tourist, check these books. This one, on Laos, was a wealth of information on customs and beliefs. My trip was more enjoyable for having read it.

Lots of great information. Author covers all the necessary areas to help understand the Lao people and culture. Minimize culture shock by reading this book before you come to Laos

This was a great read. It will make my time in Laos so much more interesting.

Everything important has yet been said in the synopsis written by very expert amazon people.For every real traveller going to a foreign country, especially an exotic one, the CultureShock Book is a real Must-Read.This series is a precious adviser on almost everything a "Stranger in a Strange Land" has to know... and then to live in the country that we enter.Especially in the Asian countries where the "Face" and its very easy loss because of misbehaviour, mostly unwilling - these books are a real well of knowledge.The most important informations are often in the "Religion" department - the most obvious are: No Shoes on Temple Grounds, the Right Dress Code for Men and Women, Women have to Stay Away from the Monks, the Donations etc...)So I can only confirm: the Culture Shock Book about Laos has been very, but very very helpful for me on my voyages.The "lessons" are very entertaining too, there are language hints, there is a Traveller's Quiz at the end, and history, mostly a very dry department, is also not too boring :)Like I said: A very Must-Read for every responsable and interested traveller!PS: I have my first edition of the CultureShock Laos of 1997 - 208 pages - now there are 320! And reading both books parallel was very interesting because of the changing in so many departments :)
