Code 7 is an amazing 7 part story following the lives of 7 different kids at Flint Hill Elementary School. Each story has a really important message for kids.The book starts out with Jefferson's story, and he has the task of painting a mural that represents his community. Jefferson teaches kids that it's important to have faith in yourself. The next story follows Sebastian and his taffy business that is based on lies. Sebastian learns the true value of building character. Through his trails, Sebastian learns what it means to do good in the world. Next, we follow Genevieve, a hopeful veterinarian, who is tasked with keeping an egg safe and intact for 7 days. Genevieve truly cares about her egg and wants to make sure nothing bad ever happens to it. She teams up with a fellow classmate, Theo, and ends up with a baby chick for her to take care of. She truly represents what it means to be caring. Next up is Alec and the war of messy rooms. Alec is in a fierce battle with his parents because he wants them to clean his room, but his parents want Alec to clean his room. Eventually, Alec learns about responsibility. Talmage is next member in the story. Talmage and his dad are determined to catch the legendary "monster" fish that lives in the lake. His dad has been trying to catch the fish for 20 years and Talmage learns to persevere to help reach his father's dream of catching the monster. Shy singer Samantha is faced with a typical mean girl who uses fear to stop Samantha from auditioning for the school musical. Eventually, Samantha learns what it means to be courageous. Last but not least is Kaitlyn, a novice film maker who learns who she is and what it means to be creative. Code 7 is an extremely inspirational read for children and adults alike. Each character in this novel can inspire anyone to lead an epic life.I really enjoyed reading this novel. As an older reader, it can sometimes be hard to get into a child mindset and really feel what they're feeling. With Code 7, it was so easy for me to feel for these 7 kids. All 7 really gave me some inspiration in my real life, and they also gave me a nostalgia of what it's like being their age. I also loved how every story had a distinct talent or activity associated with each child. This really showed that while these kids are all different and like different things they can still come together and change their community. Code 7 was a children's book with characters younger than I, but each one inspired me. I loved Code 7.

My son loves reading nonfiction - about animals, geography, rocks, dinosaurs - you get the picture. I have had a hard time finding fiction books that keep his interest. He started this book last night and is already on chapter 4. he's excited about this book. Finally!

My 9 year old daughter, who is a voracious reader, has read this book at least 5 times (no joke), and has recommended it to practically everyone she knows, including both of her boy cousins who would rather be doing other things besides reading. I found it particularly endearing that she even did a book talk on it for class in front of a video camera, when she is normally shy about being on video. What I love about this book myself is that it is a collection of short stories that have a clear purpose that kids can learn from, without them even realizing it! There is so much goodness in here about doing the right thing, being true to yourself, and so on. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to any parent or child I know. Plus it's funny to boot - we particularly enjoyed the story about the kid with the messy room and the one about the girl who wants to take the stage. LOL. I normally don't review products on Amazon but this one, I had to. I will buy this book over and over again for any reader I know.

I bought over 30 of these books for gifts! It teaches 7 positive character traits, each written in 7 short story format. The idea is to crack the code by reading each story and find the clue word (trait). I highly recommend this book for kids!

I love this book for its empowering, modern day message. The idea of cracking the code had a bit of a quest feeling, making reading the short stories a fun adventure. It's a great read for children in grades 2-6.

The reading level is too simple- Boring stories that kids see right through and the book is very thin

I thoroughly enjoy reading these type of children books, for they always teach my children an important life lesson in a simple and easy way that they can understand. It's important for children today to have morals, and the only way that they will obtain them is if they are taught from a young age.

My daughter and I love this book, and it's constantly in our bedtime reading list (at least once a week for months!) - We've spent hours talking about the characters, and although my daughter is only 5 years old (4 when we began reading it) she's been inspired by the messages from each story, and learnt a lot from the issues the characters have had to overcome. I wholeheartedly recommend Code 7 to everyone - it's wonderful, and an ideal story time book to read with younger children too!

Met Dr. Connett at a zero waste meeting in Hawai'i several years ago and was inspired at that time by his story ... year later and I finally picked up this book from our local library and was equally impressed by his writing. Decided to share it with a friend on Maui for a Christmas present. Living on an island (and on this one EARTH!) this book is especially important and carries an essential message for all of humanity. HIGHLY recommended!

This book has such valuable information, I wish that everyone would read it and work to implement its recommendations. It has solid solutions for the trash problem.

Reducing waste and diverting residuals to recycling, composting, etc. is a often-overlooked corner of the sustainability movement, despite the dramatic GHG emission reductions it can yield. Good book to build your enthusiasm for zero waste. As a professional in the waste diversion field, I note this book lacks detailed information on how community planners and waste businesses actually do the analysis to get to zero waste. But he gets high marks for enthusiasm, and for compiling many interesting anecdotes. If you get a chance to hear Paul speak, do so - he's engaging and actually does wave his arms he gets so excited about this topic.

I'm working on my Final Capstone project for my Master's Degree in Urban Sustainability regarding green waste diversion from landfills and this book will be cited multiple times...if not mostly :P It's a really good look at how we can turn our society in to one of zero-waste. I love it!

About the Author

Dr. Barbara Haight is Professor Emeritus at the College of Nursing, Medical University of South Carolina. Recently retired, Barbara conducted 8 research projects over 25 years developing the structured life review process and supervised numerous students and colleagues in the practice of life review. She was the first president of the International Life Review and Reminiscing Society and has conducted hands-on life review projects in the United States, England, Japan, and most recently Northern Ireland. She is co-editor of two books on reminiscing and life review, plus one on group process, and is widely published in the field of life review and gerontology. Barbara is a fellow emeritus in the Gerontological Society of America where she founded and conducted a special interest group on reminiscence. She is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, and in the Florence Nightingale Society.

Right on the edge of Europe, the region has been vulnerable to assault and exploitation. Franks, Vikings, English, Germans have all made their mark, resisted at every turn with resilience. The rapacity of the ancien régime was followed by deprivation of privileges during the Revolution, attacks on religion and subsequent suppression of the Breton language which struck at the very heart of Brittany. Historians and poets began to assert the distinct character of the region, while foreign travelers also left accounts of a people speaking an unfathomable language and appearing a race apart. This is not a travel guide and doesn't claim to be. It is a well-written cultural history that is filled with stories and the kind of information that you will not find in a travel guide. It is an enjoyable read that will enhance your trip and make you want to see places you never thought of visiting. Stories about the people, the sacred places, the oral cultural, Celtic music, Breton literature, and so much more will contribute to a more meaningful and enriching journey. I highly recommend reading it before you land in Brittany.

I ordered this travel guide on Amazon to help me plan a trip to Brittany. Trying to use the information in the book is a study in frustration. Except for a few details of towns, the book provides only one map: one showing all of Brittany. That map, however, does not show Brittany's departments, whereas the text is organized by departments--so you have to guess where they are. Nor is it easy to find the various towns and sites recommended. The book critically needs a map of each department showing where these places are. I don't recommend this book unless you know the area well, in which case you wouldn't need a travel guide!

Not Recommended.I read this in well under an hour, and some sections had no pictures accompanying the text description of the layouts. The author outlines the basic tools of the system, and a little bit more.I personally found spending a couple of hours on Youtube watching the Bullet Journal creator's (Ryder Carroll) TED Talk and tutorials from various channels much more useful.The power and weakness of the Bullet Journal method is it's flexibility. As the system creator says; The tools of the method are not so much about the organization of the data, as they are on focusing you attention on what matters. Going from being busy to being productive, from enduring your life to designing it.I am treating my Bullet journal as a practice by starting small with only a few sections. I am also treating this as an ongoing experiment where I expect to make mistakes, and learn from them. I will review after a month what is working , what is not, and what I want to add on a trial basis.

The point of a bullet journal is to create a personal journaling system that works for you, not to merely replicate a commercial planner that locks the user into columns, charts, and schedules. This book doesn't explain how a bullet journal is meant to be a flexible and adaptive tool for personal productivity, not just an appointment book.This book is just a repeat of Carrol Ryder's YouTube video on bullet journaling, images ripped off Pinterest, and empty vacuous buzzwords from the author's profile.Don't buy this book. Watch Ryder's YouTube video instead. It's all you need to know about bullet journaling. The rest is garbage and is just taking your money.

As an experienced experienced user of the Bullet Journal method, I find it helpful to review basics when I want to experiment with new page layouts. This book provides a great refresher as well as a starting point for new ideas. Great for newbies and experienced journalers.

Was hoping for some good examples of how to layout a bullet journal, it was mostly abstract ideas of what bullet journaling should be for. Not my favorite.

I knew most of this, was looking for more examples and suggestions that would give me more inspiration for things like goal-setting and planning.

I thought the author did a decent job of trying to explain most concepts. I really got lost on the overuse of her word "calendar" and "calendars" throughout the journal. Was she talking about the monthly log being calendars as opposed to the yearly calendar. The best part of the book was the last section offering some really great tips about how to get started and keep it going by not getting discouraged and getting back at if you fall behind. Her words to remind yourself that you're unique and not get discouraged by other people's beautiful journals is really good advice after having seen this wonderfully and painstakingly created journals out there. That is something I'm not into because that looks like it takes a lot of time which seemed like an antithesis to the reason to bullet journal in helping you use your time effectively.

The entire book feels like a quick article that helps you get started with bullet journal. Even though it feels quick there is a lot of information which you might or might not feel useful. Again, that might be the reason the author says “at least try to skim thru the book before coming to a conclusion and start implementing the process”.It’s a well spent time reading this book to understand or refresh your bullet journaling basics.

This is a guide and not an all-inclusive treatise on project scheduling. Ms. McBoz has done a good job of introducing the concept of bullet journaling. The topic is very open-ended and flexible. So there is no way to cover every aspect in just one volume. She does explain how journaling can help us relax and break our long-term goals into smaller tasks and stay focused. It is a very quick read and will help anyone new to journaling determine if this technique is for them.

I was looking through the cookbook for a new dumpling to make and came across "crab dumplings" sounds good, so I read the recipe, I mean I read the instructions because when I went to see what the recipe called for there is no ingredient list. Very sad that right in the middle of the cookbook is a recipe that very well might have been the best in the book, but it's not complete. It makes me wonder what else is missing. It also has no pitcures drawn or otherwise. If it wasn't missing anything I would say it is at least worth what I paid for it, however the fact that an entire ingredient list and measurements are missing takes away a lot.

The book is a wonderful and varied collection of recipes that include many flavor combinations.I love the easy to read print and layout of each page I am trying each recipe out..and each dumpling has been a delicious surprise.The recipe for dough is easy and delicious to make at home.

About the Author

Maeve Binchy was born in County Dublin and educated at the Holy Child convent in Killiney and at University College, Dublin. After a spell as a teacher she joined the Irish Times. Her first novel, Light a Penny Candle, was published in 1982. She went on to write many bestsellers, including Minding Frankie, Heart and Soul, Whitethorn Woods, Circle of Friends and Tara Road, which was an Oprah's Book Club selection. She also wrote for Gourmet; O, The Oprah Magazine; Modern Maturity; and Good Housekeeping, among other publications. Maeve Binchy received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Book Awards in 1999 and the Irish PEN/A.T. Cross award in 2007. In 2010 she was presented with the Bob Hughes Lifetime Achievement Award at the Bord Gáis Irish Book Awards by the then President of Ireland, Mary McAleese. She was married to the writer and broadcaster Gordon Snell for 35 years and died in 2012, shortly after finishing this book.

After reading other's reviews of this book, I looked forward to this book. Unfortunately, this book seemed very bland to me, though interesting enough for me to finish it. The story takes place primarily in Ireland. It begins by telling the reader about "Chicky", an interesting young woman who is surprised to find that she is pregnant. The story follows her adventures for awhile; time passes and we learn about her son, family and a few friends. Then, after the first few chapters, a number of chapters each focus on a different, character, each interesting enough. Most of them do not know each other. This book includes quite a cast - from ordinary people to soldiers during the war as well as Counts and Countesses. Periodically I felt more engaged with a particular person's story.Eventually everything comes together to create the storyline. However, too many people are in this cast for my taste because it takes away from our really getting to know anyone well. For me, this book can't hold a candle to books by Anne Tyler - who writes so vividly that I really know and care about and become involved with each main character.

I absolutely loved this story. It soothed my soul. Each character seemed alive to me, and the interweaving of stories was so gratifying. I had the sense, as each person's "story" unfolded, that I was watching a magic act. It reminded me of the frequent fleeting feeling I get that random occurrences in my life are not "random" at all....that things happen for a reason. If that sounds maudlin or bizarre to you, this book might not be a good choice for you. However, if you were nodding in understanding while reading that bit, you are going to LOVE this story! Knowing me, this will become one of my frequently reread favorites. I've loved Ms. Benchy's work for many years, and this book reminded me why.

This book is made for a cup of tea and a cozy blanket in front of a fire. But if you prefer spicy chai tea to camomile, this may not be the book for you. I have not read a Maeve Binchy book in years, but this is a solid example of her style. If you like her other books, you will not be disappointed. I like my books with more meat and unresolved conflicts.This book takes place on the western coast of Ireland. Young Chicky Ryan meets an American boy and is swept off her feet. Despite family protest, she moves with him to New York City. But Walter Starr is lazy and he dumps Chicky after a few months. Unfortunately, she lied to her family and said they were married. She lies again and tells them he was killed in a car accident. Widow Chicky Starr eventually returns to Ireland. With the blessing of an elderly spinster in town, Chicky converts the woman's house into a B & B. There are worrisome moments, but the place is a success.The first chapter tells Chicky's story. The next two chapters focus on her niece and the son of a friend who help her open and run the inn. The subsequent chapters are devoted to each of the guests who come for the opening week. You learn their backstory, the life crisis that brings them to Ireland for a winter vacation, the insight they gain while there, and how their life is improved. Somehow each person gets what he or she needs during their stay at Stone House. Okay, one bitter guest remains unchanged.This was a book club pick. Though not my favorite book, it is a nice choice for the hectic time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is easy to read, it goes fast, the language is basic, and it mostly held my interest. The basic language and effortless read are also on my negative list. Beyond some mild quirkiness, there is a lack of character development. There is also a lack of plot development with a thin thread that ties some of the characters together. At times I was not sure if this was a novel or a short story collection. The stories are predictable and all the outcomes are happy. There is not much to ponder here and I will not remember this book beyond the book club discussion. Again, if you like Maeve Binchy's other books, you will be well pleased with this.

This was a bittersweet read...sweet because it is by Maeve Binchy, but bitter because it is the last book she wrote before dying in July 2012. Although it is billed as a novel, each chapter is more like a short story; however, all the stories are interconnected with each one building on the others.Set in the fictional village of Stoneybridge located on the west coast of Ireland--where the winds and the waves of the Atlantic create a harsh environment--the various stories are focused around an old house that is renovated as an inn. It opens in the middle of winter (not the most weather-friendly time to visit Stoneybridge), and we learn the secrets, fears, longings and desires of the guests who visit for a week in winter.Finishing the book is much like piecing together a jigsaw puzzle. And this is classic Maeve Binchy! The stories, the characters, the setting, the descriptions...no one writes like she did.

I am extremely pleased with this product. I love all of the bar charts quick study guides. They are great for all ages to have on hand for those sneaky formulas we constantly need reminders with. I am a home educator and work with children in various ages and I recommend getting this entire series of Fundamentals from the very beginning. You never know as a parent or teacher when you will be asked a question you just can't remember, or to have on hand for quick reference for students to have at their fingertips. The quality is great and holds up well to long term use. I keep these in a binder with our math study tools so anyone can access them and not worry about forgetting steps.

It's not just 1 page front and back. It's actually one big sheet folded in half to make 4 pages. Reminds you in a more clear way how to do all the basic arithmetic, how to factor, reduce etc. Really helpful and so much clearer than it was when I was first trying to learn it as a kid.

Christmas hit, even for the old folks. Great reference chart. I got one for me and then purchased more for other family members. Quicker than google. Lots of great info and pretty handy overall. Love that it's laminated. I got the Weights and Measures Guide, too. We had a great "quiz fest" on Christmas Day!

Of all the math references I have puchased this gets usedt he most. It really illustrates how ruty my skills have become and how mucg I really needed a tool like this.

I have a 14yr old that I home school and he is having trouble with Math. These charts are very detailed and self explanatory and I would encourage anyone struggling in Math to try these out. They really do help. The cost is very low and they deliver very very quickly!

Although I own a lot of cookbooks, I rarely follow recipes as they are written, so I can't comment on how well any specific recipe worked or tasted. I can say that Madison's ideas vastly expanded my notions of soup. I am not a vegetarian, but as part of my evolving healthier quasi-Paleo eating style, I want to consume more vegetables in interesting ways. With winter coming, soup seems like a perfect fit. I make my own stock/broth from meat and bones, but learned a lot from Madison's guidance about making vegetable broths. In addition to some specific recipes, she gave excellent guidance on making broth from whatever vegetables and trimmings you hAppen to have on hand. I also appreciate that she defined some recipes as "restorative." If I catch a cold and there's no chicken broth in my home, i will definately turn to that chapter for guidance--a benefit is that a veggie broth can be prepared much quicker than bone broth. There are two recipes I will absolutely prepare as she wrote them, because their photos made me want to eat the page. One is the lovely soup shown on the book's cover. The other is a restorative soup containing ginger, cilantro, and mushrooms. Speaking of photos, not every recipe has a photo (maybe 1 out of 3 does, but the photos are stunningly beautiful. I own several of Madison's other cookbooks, but this is already my favorite because she spoke to me as a fellow cook, rather than a recipe-follower.

I am a HUGE fan of Deborah Madison and am enjoying this cookbook very much. Like many of her other recipes, the soups in this book take time to prepare and often require many ingredients but as a long-time vegetarian, I understand how hard it can be to develop good flavor in soups without using either meat-based stocks, pork (ham, bacon, etc.) or heavy cream and cheeses. I recently prepared the Quinoa, Corn and Spinach Chowder for my book club (all meat eaters) and they all loved it and asked for the recipe! The recipes are divided by season and are each accompanied by a suggested wine-pairing. While not my go-to on a busy weeknight, all of the recipes I've tried so far have delivered and I would definitely recommend this cookbook.

I love this soup book. Every time I try a new soup recipe, I am in heaven. There has not been a loser yet! I don't even like bean soup, but I figured after trying out most of the other recipes I may as well try one bean soup... very begrudgingly... - and it was even more delicious - I find myself craving that creamy combination! Definitely the go-to soup book out of literally hundreds of cookbooks on my shelf. She has little touches that are not hard but really make it yummy! They are just quick, easy, and really delicious. I would highly recommend this book if you love veggies. I am going to try the lentil with swiss chard right now... I bet it will be amazing and nourishing. And don't be afraid to try the beans - they're good for you. :)

I bought this book on my honeymoon, and have been cooking regularly out of it ever since, with exceptional results. Deborah Madison is my go-to cookbook author for delicious food that's just a bit out of the ordinary. My whole family loves these recipes, from the simple beans and pasta to roasted tomato soup with curry to the summer squash soup with masa harina dumplings. I just bought it as a gift for a friend, and can highly recommend it to anyone wanting to expand their palatte without expanding their budget or repetoire of techniques.

Everything about this book is beautiful . . . from cover to cover, and soup to soup. The photographs are so amazing, this could be a coffee table book.However, that would certainly be a shame if all we did was look at the pictures. The recipes inside this book are as delicious as the photos are beautiful.Any "vegetable lover" worthy of the title should buy this book, and those who aren't should give these recipes a try. Deborah's collection of recipes is amazing, including many delicious soups made with grains, a wide variety of beans and greens, and vegetables from A to Z.If you read the introduction, you'll be able to keep the ingredients in your pantry which will enable you to create your own soups, using the principles you learned in the introductory chapter. Although not 15 minute or 5 ingredient soups, the recipes are moderately easy to make and the ingredients easy to find. Most make a large amount, which can be reheated for lunch the next day or frozen and saved for later meals.Although the nutritional data is not included, unless you're into counting calories and fats, you can pretty well speculate on the health benefits of each soup. Most are made with ingredients bestowing a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.So, do yourself a favor; buy this book, and make some soup. This is an excellent recipe book, with many healthy recipes for soup. I have not make a soup that I didn't like using this book. I became aware of it when I was company at someone's house who used it to make our soup. That's where I became interested in it. I would highly recommend it!

I am a good cook, but I bought this book because once I went vegetarian the stocks I made were watery or bitter. Ms. Madison does not have a one size fits all approach, but instead has thought out how to make each soup flavorful using custom stocks that are quick and easy to make without extending the time of preparation by more than 10 minutes.As most of us do, I modified the add-ins according to what was local and available to two of her recipes thus far, but I have been impressed with the resulting flavors. I made the Cabbage soup with rustic bread and parmesan but added kale, green peas and purple potatoes with a great result. I also made her broccoli rabe white bean soup and have been thinking about how I am going to enjoy it tonight for dinner.This book is worth it, if only for reading Ms. Madison's introductory thoughts on how a soup should be created. These guidelines will always result in a tasty meal.
