Code 7 is an amazing 7 part story following the lives of 7 different kids at Flint Hill Elementary School. Each story has a really important message for kids.The book starts out with Jefferson's story, and he has the task of painting a mural that represents his community. Jefferson teaches kids that it's important to have faith in yourself. The next story follows Sebastian and his taffy business that is based on lies. Sebastian learns the true value of building character. Through his trails, Sebastian learns what it means to do good in the world. Next, we follow Genevieve, a hopeful veterinarian, who is tasked with keeping an egg safe and intact for 7 days. Genevieve truly cares about her egg and wants to make sure nothing bad ever happens to it. She teams up with a fellow classmate, Theo, and ends up with a baby chick for her to take care of. She truly represents what it means to be caring. Next up is Alec and the war of messy rooms. Alec is in a fierce battle with his parents because he wants them to clean his room, but his parents want Alec to clean his room. Eventually, Alec learns about responsibility. Talmage is next member in the story. Talmage and his dad are determined to catch the legendary "monster" fish that lives in the lake. His dad has been trying to catch the fish for 20 years and Talmage learns to persevere to help reach his father's dream of catching the monster. Shy singer Samantha is faced with a typical mean girl who uses fear to stop Samantha from auditioning for the school musical. Eventually, Samantha learns what it means to be courageous. Last but not least is Kaitlyn, a novice film maker who learns who she is and what it means to be creative. Code 7 is an extremely inspirational read for children and adults alike. Each character in this novel can inspire anyone to lead an epic life.I really enjoyed reading this novel. As an older reader, it can sometimes be hard to get into a child mindset and really feel what they're feeling. With Code 7, it was so easy for me to feel for these 7 kids. All 7 really gave me some inspiration in my real life, and they also gave me a nostalgia of what it's like being their age. I also loved how every story had a distinct talent or activity associated with each child. This really showed that while these kids are all different and like different things they can still come together and change their community. Code 7 was a children's book with characters younger than I, but each one inspired me. I loved Code 7.

My son loves reading nonfiction - about animals, geography, rocks, dinosaurs - you get the picture. I have had a hard time finding fiction books that keep his interest. He started this book last night and is already on chapter 4. he's excited about this book. Finally!

My 9 year old daughter, who is a voracious reader, has read this book at least 5 times (no joke), and has recommended it to practically everyone she knows, including both of her boy cousins who would rather be doing other things besides reading. I found it particularly endearing that she even did a book talk on it for class in front of a video camera, when she is normally shy about being on video. What I love about this book myself is that it is a collection of short stories that have a clear purpose that kids can learn from, without them even realizing it! There is so much goodness in here about doing the right thing, being true to yourself, and so on. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to any parent or child I know. Plus it's funny to boot - we particularly enjoyed the story about the kid with the messy room and the one about the girl who wants to take the stage. LOL. I normally don't review products on Amazon but this one, I had to. I will buy this book over and over again for any reader I know.

I bought over 30 of these books for gifts! It teaches 7 positive character traits, each written in 7 short story format. The idea is to crack the code by reading each story and find the clue word (trait). I highly recommend this book for kids!

I love this book for its empowering, modern day message. The idea of cracking the code had a bit of a quest feeling, making reading the short stories a fun adventure. It's a great read for children in grades 2-6.

The reading level is too simple- Boring stories that kids see right through and the book is very thin

I thoroughly enjoy reading these type of children books, for they always teach my children an important life lesson in a simple and easy way that they can understand. It's important for children today to have morals, and the only way that they will obtain them is if they are taught from a young age.

My daughter and I love this book, and it's constantly in our bedtime reading list (at least once a week for months!) - We've spent hours talking about the characters, and although my daughter is only 5 years old (4 when we began reading it) she's been inspired by the messages from each story, and learnt a lot from the issues the characters have had to overcome. I wholeheartedly recommend Code 7 to everyone - it's wonderful, and an ideal story time book to read with younger children too!

Met Dr. Connett at a zero waste meeting in Hawai'i several years ago and was inspired at that time by his story ... year later and I finally picked up this book from our local library and was equally impressed by his writing. Decided to share it with a friend on Maui for a Christmas present. Living on an island (and on this one EARTH!) this book is especially important and carries an essential message for all of humanity. HIGHLY recommended!

This book has such valuable information, I wish that everyone would read it and work to implement its recommendations. It has solid solutions for the trash problem.

Reducing waste and diverting residuals to recycling, composting, etc. is a often-overlooked corner of the sustainability movement, despite the dramatic GHG emission reductions it can yield. Good book to build your enthusiasm for zero waste. As a professional in the waste diversion field, I note this book lacks detailed information on how community planners and waste businesses actually do the analysis to get to zero waste. But he gets high marks for enthusiasm, and for compiling many interesting anecdotes. If you get a chance to hear Paul speak, do so - he's engaging and actually does wave his arms he gets so excited about this topic.

I'm working on my Final Capstone project for my Master's Degree in Urban Sustainability regarding green waste diversion from landfills and this book will be cited multiple times...if not mostly :P It's a really good look at how we can turn our society in to one of zero-waste. I love it!

About the Author

Dr. Barbara Haight is Professor Emeritus at the College of Nursing, Medical University of South Carolina. Recently retired, Barbara conducted 8 research projects over 25 years developing the structured life review process and supervised numerous students and colleagues in the practice of life review. She was the first president of the International Life Review and Reminiscing Society and has conducted hands-on life review projects in the United States, England, Japan, and most recently Northern Ireland. She is co-editor of two books on reminiscing and life review, plus one on group process, and is widely published in the field of life review and gerontology. Barbara is a fellow emeritus in the Gerontological Society of America where she founded and conducted a special interest group on reminiscence. She is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, and in the Florence Nightingale Society.

Right on the edge of Europe, the region has been vulnerable to assault and exploitation. Franks, Vikings, English, Germans have all made their mark, resisted at every turn with resilience. The rapacity of the ancien régime was followed by deprivation of privileges during the Revolution, attacks on religion and subsequent suppression of the Breton language which struck at the very heart of Brittany. Historians and poets began to assert the distinct character of the region, while foreign travelers also left accounts of a people speaking an unfathomable language and appearing a race apart. This is not a travel guide and doesn't claim to be. It is a well-written cultural history that is filled with stories and the kind of information that you will not find in a travel guide. It is an enjoyable read that will enhance your trip and make you want to see places you never thought of visiting. Stories about the people, the sacred places, the oral cultural, Celtic music, Breton literature, and so much more will contribute to a more meaningful and enriching journey. I highly recommend reading it before you land in Brittany.

I ordered this travel guide on Amazon to help me plan a trip to Brittany. Trying to use the information in the book is a study in frustration. Except for a few details of towns, the book provides only one map: one showing all of Brittany. That map, however, does not show Brittany's departments, whereas the text is organized by departments--so you have to guess where they are. Nor is it easy to find the various towns and sites recommended. The book critically needs a map of each department showing where these places are. I don't recommend this book unless you know the area well, in which case you wouldn't need a travel guide!
