I lost 25 pounds in 3 weeks, without doing all the exercises.

Bob Harper presents a very reasonable and detailed 3 week plan. He is very explicit in stating that this is a jumpstart only; not a life plan. He provides meals with recipes as well as a workout plan. My only complaint is that the meals and the recipes are not listed together and there isn't an index provided to go quickly from both, at least on the kindle version.

Followed this for a week. Lost seven pounds. Took a day or two to not feel hungry, but really, I didn't mind and did feel better eating healthy. I like the electrolyte replacement powder he recommends, and some of his recipes are REALLY delicious. Others I did not care for, but you can pick and choose. I found that some of the recipes were actually more food than I could eat at one meal. My husband ate what I cooked and he liked most of the dishes, even tho' he was not trying to lose weight.If you are determined to lose some weight, I'd recommend using this for a week or two to get yourself off to a fast start and then transition to his Skinny Rules regimen. I've since lost another two pounds with the SR, even going out to eat a few times. His rules make sense and lead to an overall healthier diet - so you will be able to maintaiin your weight after you've reached your goal.My daughter lost 30 pounds follwing Bob Harper's Skinny Rules, and has kept if off for many months, because she changed her formally unhealthy eating habits, maintains an exercise routine, and still manages to go out for drinks and dinner with friends, etc. It is all a balance and the SR is a guideline that works.

A three week program - I thought -no problem. Well let me tell you, that first week was tough. And to make matters worse, on my start day I developed muscle spasms in my back and could barely walk. But I was determined that it could work without too much exercise. I remember at day 2 thinking "19 to go".By the end of week one, I had not had a diet soda, piece of bread, sweets, no milk in coffee, etc. I was following it to the letter. I was determined. And I was not missing any of it. It really makes you think about how much and what you are eating!!!After 21 days, without exercise, I lost a whole dress size.If put your mind to it and follow the plan, it will work. Thanks Bob!

this diet was delicious to follow- yes it takes time and effort but I feel much better following this plan- I've lost about 10 lbs (was hoping for more) but I really feel good - cutting out breads and carbs is what I needed to do.the recipes are so easy and its all the food I love to eat anyway. I just needed a reminder how and what to eat-I really think this is not a 3 week diet but a diet you can follow for life- I am not hungry at all and the meals are very satisfying.

The recipes are great but sometimes include lots of ingredients that do not repeat in the weekly diet set in Bob's plan. This plan was too expensive to follow long term and I found myself hungry more often than not. I found much more success by completing a Whole30 and continuing to follow many of the Whole30 rules in my daily diet.

Now that I put a bookshelf in my son's room to hold all of his books, he's begun yanking them all off of the shelves and playing with them. He's about 8 months old, so he's far from gentle. So far, he's only managed to rip a couple of the dust covers from the hardcover books, but he gravitates toward the books with paper pages, rather than the cardboard ones he can't really hurt. I bought him a handful of these "Indestructible" books for Christmas, so when he started getting into his books, I could "trade" him and give him one of these instead a book he can really destroy. It's working out pretty well. The pages of these make similar sounds as pages in regular books, so he can still leaf through them, but I don't have to worry about him mangling them. He grabs them, pulls on them, chews on them, crawls over them, etc, and so far we haven't had any rip. To be fair, he still prefers other books, but I guess that's to be expected. They always want to play with the stuff they shouldn't, right?My only complaint is that these don't really have stories, so there's not much I can read to him. I can point to the pictures/words and tell him what they are, though he isn't really interested in that yet. Really, he just wants to mangle them. :)

I was extremely skeptical of these "indestructible" books. Even moreso when I received it. I was poorly packaged and the texture was almost that of a crumpled up piece of paper. I tried tearing the pages myself to no avail so I handed to my teething 7 month old to test out. She really put that book through the ringer and miraculously the book is still intact. If I didn't know better I'd say this was an extremely cheap children's book. But now I love it and plan to buy more of these books. The artwork is nice and colorful enough. My baby girl enjoys playing with it whether we're reading it to her or not. A friend of mine says you can even put the book through the dishwasher when you want to wash them off.

These book really are "indestructible." They are a wonderful quality, with great pictures for young "readers." I have recommended this product to child care centers, as I believe children should always have books to explore. Teachers and parents can have these out for children to look at without worrying about them being destroyed. I wish they made more than one series of these. These books make a great purchase for a baby shower or birth of a new baby.

Baby loves these indestructible books. She chews, tugs, throws and grabs at these books and it just keeps on going. She loves the vibrant colors and pictures. We go through these everyday to identify the animals and colors. Keeps her entertained in the car and stroller. I hole punched it and attached a pacifier holder on it to keep it in the stroller on the go.Keep in mind these are not story books but rather just pictures to identify the animals. Another mom I know recommended these to us and glad we got them.

I got these for my newborn grandson in December when he was born. I knew he wouldn't use them for a while but they looked so great. The pages are made out of a paper that cannot rip, shredded or ruined. My daughter says he loves them already. He is following along with the story he tries to turn the pages. When he is on the floor crawling around he beelines to his toy basket and gets one of the books.My daughter said she can wash it in the sink dry with paper towels and then when wet straighten the out and they look practically brand new. We love these books.

These books are great, but I wish they were smaller.I originally ordered these when my German friend showed me some of her son's books (from a German manufacturer). They use the exact same concept...the books feel similar and the print quality looks the same. Those books are small and compact--the perfect size for little people. I think given the level that these books are at (pre-verbal and and first words), they're too big for little hands.

The colors are bright enough to capture my baby's attention. I make up stories as I "read" the book. Sometimes I only name the animals other times I name objects in the book. I can put it the diaper bag and it doesn't take much space. Also babies don't need 10+ books. We invested in only 2 and plan to entertain her with them for a while. Babies need repetition and something that engages them. I just love these books!

Having dealt with meth addicts in my work, I was really interested to read a book from a junkie's perspective. Mr. Salant's story is unusual, in my experience, in that he was shooting heroin before every going to meth. As a result, he almost immediately begins intraveneous meth use, which is a pretty rare -- and serious -- starting point.However, his descent into the meth world, the life driven by the single-minded quest for the next hit, the deceit, the overwhelming paranoia, and the moral and physical decay are presented vividly. You keep thinking, why would anyone want to even start down this path?A disturbing part of this story is the parents' enabling role in their son's ongoing addiction, especially in light of their older son's similar descent into the drug world. Their naivete and gullibility jarred me in light of their educated, middle class upbringing. Mr. Salant consistently cons them out of money and sympathy. But I wonder if as a parent I would be able to engage in the "tough love" he appears to have needed.The primary reason that I gave this book 4 stars, and not 5, is the author's failure to discuss fully the difficulty of getting and remaining sober, when he eventually chooses to do so. In my observations, meth addiction is one of the most difficult to overcome, particularly on a long-term basis due to the permanent damage which it wreaks on one's brain. I would have liked the book to flesh out that ongoing process, so that readers don't come away with an unrealistic understanding of the complexity of getting and staying "straight."Nevertheless, this is an interesting and vivid work of the lives and thought processes of meth additcts.

Salant's book is by far the best memoir of drug addiction I've ever read.It's precisely the relative absence of shock-for-shock's sake that made this book such a satisfying read. As described by Salant, a drug addict's world isn't exciting; it's just sordid (which Salant acknlowedges in recounting some of the gross and/or unsavory things he did while addicted. Those of us who like to read about unsavory things done by other people - and I'm one of them - do get their money's worth in this memoir). But it's his writing that struck me as singular.Told by a less talented writer, this story could have been ho-hum. But Salant writes with great clarity and economy, and seems objective as he can be in a book about himself. He does talk about writing poetry in the book, though sometimes he lied about that so his parents would send him money, so I'm not sure how much poetry he actually wrote!But as for his prose, Salant writes as if he's been writing forever - he's that good. He's an extremely talented young writer, and thanks to that, this book wasn't the cobbled-together addiction exploitation book it very easily could have been.Another reviewer said he (or she) would have liked more about his recovery. I think that might have been too much; I think Salant was right in leaving off where he did. And for an addict or alcoholic, there is always the chance of relapse; it's risky talking about your "recovery" when you're still in your early 20s. That's just my view, of course.But this one's absolutely well worth reading.

Bored, tired of reading books with facts and statistics? Yes, so was I.This book is a great, fun read. The main character Jim (the author James Salant) keeps you on the edge of your seat.James doesnt waste your time trying to give you statistics on drugs, drug use or even how meth is produced.This is his story of addiction, from beginning to end. Its not a pretty journey through the countryside, but rather a long walk down a dirty, dangerous back alley.Meth use is a disgusting, but growing problem in the U.S. This book gives you one mans glimpse of what it was like being hooked on it!!!

This book is a gut wrenching and real account of how meth and heroin takes over a life and grinds it into the pavement. If you know anyone who has ever been addicted to drugs you will relate to this story, how the drugs take over your body, mind and soul and how that affects the people around you and that love you. The stealing, the crime, the sex, the crazy and obsessive behavior. It is all here. If you don't know anyone addicted to drugs, once you read this book you will have a better understanding of why they act the way they do. Understanding is half the battle.

Good book. True story about drug use. Raw and real. Could be sensitive. Loved it.

James Salant tells a frightening, but oh so truthful story of his experiences with meth and what it did / does to him and his family. The nightmare caused by this drug is unbelievable and what he writes about in his story is pretty much the normal run for users and their families. Everyone gets hurt and I speak from personal experience from the family side and watching 2 family members slide down into hell because of this drug. Mr. Salant tells it like it is and the story is excellent reading.

Every 13 year old should read this book. If they did, we wouldn’t have a drug problem in this country.

I am a detox nurse so I enjoy books of this nature. Such a good read, could not put it down. The book was an easy read, not too gruesome. The relationships and situations presented make you really personify the author-- love him, hate him, want to scream at him. I recommend this book not only to colleagues but friends and family. The country needs to see addiction as a disease, this book does that as well as showing that an addict will only maintain sobriety once he or she wants it.

I don’t normally like books that purport to tell me “how to do” anything with my life, but this book is the exception. In an engaging and readable style, Dr. Hendriksen gives us step-by-step advice based on documented psychological research that makes breaking out from our Inner Critic and “busting the myths” of social anxiety possible. I was thrilled to find that a technique that I've been using on my own to control my social anxiety is recommended in this book. Now to try her other suggestions! This is real, practical advice for the 40% of us.Dr. Hendriksen takes a gentle but authoritative approach to a serious subject. Neither preachy nor navel-gazing, and never condescending, theengrossing narratives about actual clients and about herself make the book relatable and honest. Full of witty language and cultural references, I found myself laughing out loud many times. Highly recommended!Don’t let the cover fool you. This book is definitely for him, as well as her and them.

I started out listening to Ellen's Podcast, The Savvy Psychologist, and that's where I found out that she was writting this book. I preordered it and I have to say this bookis amazing. Anyone dealing with social anixiety will love this book. There are stories tied to the socially anxious traits to better understand how they manifest. Now, it has me thinking about my past and how they've affected me now. The ebst prt of the book is not only the explanation, but the challenge to change these behaviors. And also for the socially anxious person to realize there's nothing wrong with you.I RECCOMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE!!!

Incredible. By far thr best material I have read on social anxiety, and I have done a lot of research. After many years suffering from chronic shyness and crippling self-toture before, during, and after social situations, I have learned that it's okay to make (what I consider) mistakes, and treat myself with self-compassionate. I have realized that being around people doesn't mean I have to put on a performance, because who you are is already enough. This book contains many insights into what makes up social anxiety, why sufferers of capital-S Social anxiety feel and act the way they do, and offers various effective tactics to combat it. Highly recommend

Many popular self-help books are light on science, and many research-oriented books lack practical advice and are a slog to read. Ellen Hendriksen totally nails the rare combination of a book with a solid research foundation that is chockfull of accessible tips and strategies. As a fellow clinical psychology Ph.D, it's clear to me that the author knows what she's talking about. She uses great story-telling and engaging writing to introduce well-validated techniques from CBT and other therapy approaches. If you've struggled with social anxiety (and who hasn't?) this book will help.

I am really enjoying this book so far. The stories are entertaining and the author brings her patients to life as characters, while also providing facts about how our brains work when we're anxious and practical advice. I can see this book helping a wide variety of people, from the person who is nervous to speak up at work to the teenager who has developed social anxiety & "FOMO" from social media (Instagram, Facebook). Dr. Hendriksen makes the approach feel really modern and, although it is self-help-y, the book is very grounded in storytelling and specific anecdotes, which make it fun and memorable to read! This is my favorite kind of nonfiction because it shares stories, facts, and advice all at once.

As a chronic online self-help article-skimmer, not much in this book was brand spanking new to me, but after reading it and really digesting and applying the material to my life, I feel like I can actually see a change. If you're like me, you might start reading this and think it's for some shut-in, crippled by fear, but keep reading, and open your mind. I was able to apply so much to my more mild anxiety, and I'm better because of it. I highly recommend this book.

I've been wandering around the social anxiety self-help block for about 3 years now. I must have read at least a dozen other books on this topic, from "best-selling" authors and groundbreaking researchers. However, no other books broach the topic as deeply and strike as close to my heart as this one.Each chapter contains a compelling and useful tool on how to combat social anxiety, and what's more, together they paint a thorough picture of the, or at least my, social anxiety experience. Very few authors really capture the nuanced thoughts that occur during social anxiety, but this author is quite special in that she has personally had social anxiety and she knows how to describe the experience vividly.I would highly recommend this book as the go-to guide for anyone looking to improve their social anxiety.

I’ve been a fan of the Savvy Psycholgist since Dr. Hendriksen began, mainly because the segments are chock full of actual peer reviewed studies used as the back bone for each show. Her applications of research to daily life is well-done and relatable. I was so excited to hear about her book, and it was all I’d hoped for! Like Dr. H, I’m a clinical psychologist who also experiences social anxiety, and the concepts and research were familiar. However, her style of applying science to examples from her own or patients’ lives make this book truly stand out as useful. I have now recommended it as a supplement to psychotherapy for several of my patients. In summary, this is a well-done, science based approach that is also very practical. Thank you, Dr. H! I can’t wait for your next book!
