Unless the newcomer has come from a Roman Catholic background, he/she will likely be confused about sitting, standing, kneeling, use of the Book of Common Prayer and the Eucharist. This is indeed a handbook! The author not only explains the Episcopalian worship service in detail, but provides background information on the whys.
This is an excellent handbook--regardless of whether you are an inquirer into the Episcopal Church, are a new Episcopalian, or even are an Episcopalian of many years. It is written in a very easy-to-read style, with many entries written on the lighter side. A lady at our church had this book, which was used in some training she previously attended, so after thumbing through her copy, I bought one and am very pleased with it. Oftentimes, we forget some of the aspects of our heritage or forget why we do certain things. This book addresses many things Episcopalian, and most of the entries are brief enough that one or two can be read in only a few minutes--until the next opportunity to read more arises. I highly recommend it.
The book gives a lot of solid information on the Episcopal way of following Christ, often with some welcome humor. It is an easy read, yet very worth reading. The book gives you a chance to experience first hand the mixture of relaxed humor and awed seriousness that often characterizes Episcopal worship. I think this is essential reading for someone thinking of becoming part of an Episcopal congregation, and it will be a good refresher of the essentials for long time members.
As someone new to this faith, I have found this book to be interesting, entertaining, and informative. It is very accessible, and should provide answers to many questions on the minds of others wishing to know more about this religion. I find myself refering to it often, and I do not hesitate to recommend it to others.
I am an Episcopalian and this book is so informative why we do what we do in the Episcopal Church. I showed it to friends and mine and they wanted one. So I ordered more.
This book is great. It is in question format, with wonderful answers. It's written in a light and sometimes humorous way, and I am finding it fun to read while I learn about the religion I have returned to.
Am reading this book for Lent. Will start it on Wednesday, February 10th. I have a very good friend who is Episcopal, I like his church, so wanted to know more about it. I was born into the Methodist church, and besides Baptist, do not know very much about other denomations. I think this is a good starter book, but I plan to delve further. Will keep you posted!!
Awesome book that is full of information about the Episcopal Church. But the Episcopal Handbook is in common American English. Yeah! I can understand and recommend to anybody wanting to know more about the Episcopal Church.
